YW-Leaders Program
YW-Leaders is in essence YW-Teens at the high school and college level. Originally steaming from our YW-Teens participants, the YWCA of Watsonville accepts volunteers from high school to college students who are interested in developing their skills further. Participants are trained as co-facilitators and join staff during YW-Teen Programming or many of our other programs.
Awareness about gender inequalities, rights, health is reached through discussing gender norms, human rights, sexuality, and violence. When discussing HIV we discuss myths and facts, condom use skills, and health services available in Watsonville such as Salud Para la Gente and Planned Parenthood. Leadership skills for high school students are acquired through attending middle school sessions and helping facilitate activities.
